For years Kenule Beeson Saro Wiwa, winner of the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman Environmental Prize and president of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, waged a nonviolent campaign against Royal Dutch Shell. In 1995 he and eight others were hanged by the military government of Nigeria.

Join Canyon Country Rising Tide and Deep Green Resistance for a film screening of Sweet Crude, a documentary of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta. A discussion of resistance to extractive industries to follow. Admission is free, donations to fund the fight against Utah tar sands mining accepted.
